Caring Companies: Now for the GOOD news...

Look how long this list is!

See below for a list of retailers and designers who commit to not selling or using fur and cosmetics companies who do not test their products on animals.

In fashion, it’s less common to find lines that go completely leather-free as well (also known as vegan lines) but if any of the brands below are followed with an asterisk, they are also leather-free (and for these I have provided websites – some of them do not sell directly).

It heartens my little G&G soul to see so many companies on this list! The even better news is that this list is not exhaustive - I didn't want to overload it so I didn't include all the companies, but tried to include favourites. So if you want to know about any others, just shoot me an email!

You don't have to be cruel to be kind (especially not with this list!),

  1. I was wondering if Pangea, Nouba, Eden Allure and REN Skincare could be added to your list? I'm pretty sure none of them do animal testing..especially Eden Allure and REN. Thanks and I'm so happy to have come across your blog.

  2. Thanks so much for your suggestions! Pangea is actually already on the list but I am looking into the other three now, and if they are cruelty-free I will definitely add them! Stay guiltless and glamorous!

  3. I heard back from Nouba and they have confirmed that they do not test on animals, so I have added them to the list. I was able to confirm for myself that REN Skincare and Eden Allure both are cruelty-free, so have also added them. Thanks for being so proactive!

  4. Could you please add Jordana to the list. They do not test on animals.

  5. I'm pretty sure MAC cosmetics doesn't test on animals as well..

  6. MAC is owned by Estee Lauder, which does test on animals.

  7. Furless are cruelty free and vegan, they sell makeup too www.furless.com.au

  8. Thanks so much for this list. Are Burt's Bees cruelty free? I thought they were but I don't see them!

  9. Burt's Bees as a brand claim to be cruelty-free, but unfortunately they were bought out by Clorox, who are not cruelty-free, so I don't include them on this list as I don't support any corporations who have any products tested on animals. It's similar to Clairol's Herbal Essences - the Herbal Essences brand in and of itself claims to be cruelty-free but Clairol's other products aren't, and at the end of the day Clorox and Clairol get the money, so I don't support them. Hope that helps...!

  10. Im so confused!! I just read that clarins, almay, and kiehls do test on animals but here it says they dont...I have no idea how to figure it out. I really dont want to make the mistake of supporting a bad company.:(

  11. Where did you read that those companies were bad? Clarins is awesome - makes everything from natural oils and has never tested on animals. Don't worry too much - there's a lot of information out there that's overwhelming - just stick with this list and you should be good!

  12. Thank you so~ much!! I read it on one of the sites that lists which companies do or do not test on animals, but I can't remember which one. I was on about 7 different sites last night trying to figure which brands I need to stick with!:) Thank you for all of your help and input!:D I'm determined to wead out the bad brands!

  13. Thank you for all of your help and input! I just want to let you know that I trust your advice and I am well on my way to switching over to the caring companies! Clarins, Laura Mercier, MUFE, etc. here I come!:) it's an important cause that I believe in. I LOVE animals more than anything!:) Thank you.

  14. MAC is on the "don´t test on animals" list from PETA

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anonymous: It is, and MAC itself claims not to test on animals, but it is owned by Estee Lauder, a company which does. So it depends how strict you're being, but I tried not to include any brands that are owned by companies still testing, because at the end of the day the money goes back to the same place, and that's not where we want it to be!

  16. How about St. Ives? Do they or do they not test on animals, I'm not 100% clear about whether or not they do. I keep on reading/hearing different things, and you seem to be a reliable source to confirm my skepticism.

    ReplyDelete
  17. St. Ives is owned by Alberto-Culver, which is on this list. So yes, both St. Ives (the brand) and Alberto-Culver (the parent company) are cruelty-free. As I have said many times on this blog, while it is great to support cruelty-free brands it is even better to support cruelty-free COMPANIES. There are many companies who produce brands made without cruelty (like Herbal Essences) but the company themselves (Herbal Essences is owned by Clairol) don't have a cruelty-free policy, so their other brands are still tainted. So try to support companies that are entirely cruelty-free - and St. Ives' parent company Alberto-Culver is a great example of this!

  18. Thanks so much for this. Very useful, especially as you don't include brands owned by cruel parent companies.

  19. Hellohello!

    Isn't Kiehl's owned by L'Oreal now? ><

  20. You're absolutely right; thank you for the update! I have taken Kiehl's off the list. Happy New Year!
